The healthy Eggplant
Hello everyone!
Do you like to eat eggplant??
I like eggplant for my mom always tell that it is healthy. She also said that eggplant can make us kinda "youthful look" (in Indonesian: awet muda). I don't know whether it is true or not, but all I know that eggplant is good for health. It is one of the World healthiest foods.
Eggplant (Solanum melongena) is also know as aubergine in British and Canadian English (wikipedia). Indonesia is one of many countries that produce eggplant massively.
Eggplant contains vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, many which have antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity of course related to skin health and also body. Well, here are some reasons to eat eggplant:
1. Eggplant is good for brain = brain food
In the eggplant skin, there is anthocyanin phytonutrient we can found called nasunin. Nasunin is a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger that has been shown to protect cell membranes from damage. Cell membranes are almost entirely composed of lipids and are
responsible for protecting the cell from free radicals, letting
nutrients in and wastes out, and receiving instructions from messenger
molecules that tell the cell which activities it should perform.
2. The essential nutrients needed for our body are supplied in the eggplant such as the iron, calcium, and minerals.
3. Eggplants contain certain essential phyto nutrients which improve blood
circulation and nourish the brain. But remember—these nutrients are
concentrated in the skin of the eggplant, so don’t char and throw it
away.
